After college on Wednesday, I decided to travel up to London with Frankie to take some pictures of night photography and extend from the work that I had previously done which contained light. Such as the glow sticks in bottle shoot and the light writing shoot. From these, my aim was to take pictures of the vibrant city and get some light streaks from cars. This included taking my camera to some of the most iconic landmarks and putting the camera on a longer exposure to see the fast paced cars. I changed this time to make just streaks of light or get the subject in it. One of my favourite photos from the shoot was this one which was taken outside Piccadilly Circus. I like this image as it clearly displays the colours from the London Bus and you still get the streaks from other cars that have gone past. One of the reasons I like this image is how the background and the floor has stayed the same due to it being on a tripod and not moving.
Another one of my favourite images from this shoot was the one below of Big Ben. It took several attempts to take an image like this and eventually it resulted in being heavily edited in order for it to stand out. One of the reasons this occurred was due to how soft the colours of the clock were in comparison to the bright frame. Many of my images were blurred or from an angle which did not suit the image. Eventually, I edited this image and like it, but also, the angle means that it appears 3D when in an triptych. Some of my images were of good angles but were not focused as they were too close to the lights which lit up the clock tower. In the future, if I was to go back to London I would look at it in the day and try and get some images of the way these landmarks look without looking at light photography.
Progression
In the next shoot, I am going to be in Paris as I have already booked it as a holiday. From this, I will be continuing on from my London shoot and taking other images of cities other than those in the UK. I feel like the trip will be a great experience for me as it will enable me to see a completely different culture and interpret them in my photos. I am looking forward to taking day and night images during the week that I am there, by using the knowledge I already have from London at night. There will also be a chance for me to take a range of landscape shots as I will be going up a number of different skyscrapers which will enable me to see the city as a whole.
